Research themes

The GCBA aims to establish technical standards and metrics that advance biofoundry applications worldwide. Our work focuses on harmonizing data formats, workflows (particularly unit operations), ontologies (shared lexicons and terminology), and regulatory frameworks encompassing governance, policy, biosafety, and biosecurity.
Each program will be piloted across participating countries, fostering collaboration and alignment in standards and metrics for global biofoundry applications.

Aim 1: Developing and validating standards and metrics for biofoundry applications through cross-national efforts

Aim 2: Performing cross-national comparison of governance and regulatory frameworks for biofoundries

Aim 3: Developing cross-national programs for outreach

Aim 4: Developing cross-national programs for education and workforce development
